A Current Limiting Method for Single-Loop Voltage-Magnitude Controlled Grid-Forming Converters During Symmetrical Faults

This article proposes a current limiting method for single-loop voltage-magnitude controlled grid-forming (GFM) converters to avoid overcurrent during symmetrical faults. The proposed consists of two parts, which are the outer power reference adjustment limit steady-state fault current, and transient virtual resistor, implemented by directly modifying modulation voltage reference, fault-inception -clearing periods. Furthermore, nonlinear dynamic model GFM converter with control is developed, phase portrait plotted reveal influences resistor on stability. Finally, experimental tests confirm that can effectively an admissible value while simultaneously keeping mode ride-through.
